I have been involved with photography since childhood. I had a great photography teacher, Ed Collings, at Columbia College in Colombia, Missouri. He taught me the zone system. I did well in his class. On the last day of class, Mr. Collings met with each student individually. He said to me, "John, I don’t know what to say... but as teachers we get a list of all the new books coming into the library and I think you should take a look at this one." He handed me the listing showing me the book, Explorations in the Geometry of Thinking: SYNERGETICS by R. Buckminster Fuller. I thought the book, Synergetics, was great. It had never been checked out before. Looking at this inspiring book, I thought, "As soon as I get a job and make enough money, I'm buying this book and a 1 degree spot meter!", and I did. Synergistics is a creative tool for thought. Defined in Synergetics as being conceptuality; "The greatest of all the faculties is the ability of the imagination to formulate conceptually. Conceptuality is the subjective; realization is objective. Conceptuality is metaphysical and weightless; reality is physical." * Ed, thanks for helping me see, and think.
